Dear friends,
A very warm welcome to this service, wherever you are worshipping in the Langtree Team Ministry area. May God’s peace and joy be with us all.
A particular blessing for all the pets and other animals who have been brought along this morning to the Animal’s Service at Checkendon ! Our pets and animals give us so much joy, and bring love into our lives in ways both gentle and joyful. It is wonderful to have a chance to come together before God to give thanks for all his creatures and the ways they draw us into the orbit of God’s greater love.
Next Sunday sees the visit of the Archdeacon of Dorchester, the Venerable Judy French, to the Langtree Team Ministry. Judy will be attending the services at St Leonard’s at 8am, St Mary’s Ipsden at 9.30am, and St Peter and St Paul Checkendon at 11am. She will be celebrating the communion at Checkendon.
Please can you make every effort to attend your church on this coming Sunday, because it is important that Archdeacon Judy appreciates that there really is a need for the level of ministerial staffing that we enjoy, and which is not set in stone.
Finally just to say that if you love Big Band Jazz, then there is a rare, unique, one off, concert by the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra, who are coming to Checkendon Village Hall in aid of Checkendon Church on Friday January 27th at 7.30pm. Tickets are £20 and include supper. They are also red hot, so if you would like to order yours, please get in touch with Honor on honorvs@gmail.com and do it soon, because this gig promises to be quite something.
Thank you to those of you who prayed for me while I was away in Jerusalem. It was a ten day study seminar on the Holocuast, arranged jointly by the Council of Christians and Jews in the UK, and the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial museum in Jerusalem, so the material was sombre and often gruelling. Nevertheless it was a valuable time, with some useful learning which I hope to be able to share with some of you over the coming year.
Your Rector Revd Kevin Davies
