Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 16th February 2020

Welcome

Dear friends,

A very warm welcome to this service, wherever you are worshipping in the Langtree Team. A special welcome to Revd John and Mrs Jean Blair for their first services at Ipsden and North Stoke. A goodly crowd attended on Tuesday to see John receive his licence from the Archdeacon. Many thanks to everyone at Ipsden who helped to facilitate both the service and refreshments.

Also a warm welcome to baby Sebastian Knight and his family as he is baptised into the Christian church at Checkendon this morning.

SLOW Church

This morning sees the launch of SloW Church at Woodcote, which is an exciting new style of informal worship running in the Village Hall for an hour from 9.30am. Coffee, pastries, music and visuals plus a chance to reflect on life today in God’s presence.

Dou Dekacord

Thank you to everyone who came to the classical concert at Checkendon last Friday evening. We enjoyed stunning music from Florence and Elias (the “Duo Dekacord” – as heard on Radio 3) featuring the baroque cello, an enormous theorbo, with music from a Bach cello suite to a Chopin nocturne, this latter played on a ukelele ! It was a very special evening.

Finally, I hope that Valentine’s day on Friday last gave you an opportunity to rejoice in God’s gift to us of love, whether from your spouse, or family, or in happy memories from times gone by. Storms may rage about us, but with God’s love on our hearts the human spirit is unshakeable.

Your Rector Canon Kevin Davies
