Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 7th April 2019

Dear friends,

A very warm welcome to this service, wherever you are worshipping in the Langtree Team Ministry area. May the peace and joy of Christ be yours on this the fifth Sunday of Lent.

Easter Preparations

Easter preparations are well under way in all our churches: Palm Sunday services take place next week, so do remember to come along to receive your (African made) palm cross to take away.

Maundy Thursday (18th April) sees our Team Service at St John’s Stoke Row, at 8pm. (Note the time). Everyone from across the Team is warmly invited to join us for an hour of meditation, prayer, and the eucharist of the last supper.

Good Friday (19th April) has a variety of service options around the Team, all detailed on the Team website “Festivals” page.  http://langtreechurches.org/sunday-services/festivals/

Do come to a service that appeals, either in format, or in time. For example at Checkendon we are offering an informal service suitable for all ages in the School, from 10.30-11.30am, with refreshments. Elsewhere you will find the more traditional vigil and meditation service from 2pm in the afternoon.

Church Clean Up Morning

On a personal note, I would like to remind everyone at Checkendon that there is a church and graveyard working party scheduled for Saturday 27th April, from 10-12noon. Please come equipped for either cleaning inside, or gardening outside, to help make the church beautiful for the coming weddings season.

Our final week of “rote learning challenges” concludes today with the Ten Commandments. (below) Can you list them all in your head now, without looking? Thank you to everyone who has joined in this discipline.

The Ten Commandments

The form below is suitable for memorisation. If you would like to read the “full” text, the reference is Exodus 20:1-17.

I am the Lord your God; you shall have no other gods but me.
You shall not make for yourself any idol,
whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
You shall not bow down to them or worship them.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.
For six days you shall labour and do all your work.
But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
Honour your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness.
You shall not covet.
