Dear friends,
A very warm welcome to this Palm Sunday service, where we remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, acclaimed by the crowds as their King, upsetting the Temple authorities, and aggravating the Roman overlords. The stage is set for a confrontation – how does it end?
I wonder if you can answer that question? Not many people in our society today know the answer. Not every school teaches the Christian faith in a way that could have been taken for granted thirty years ago, and the practise of Bible reading at home has now all but disappeared.
So, I ask you again – do you know the Easter story? How would you tell it? What does it mean to you?
Perhaps you might take a few hours during this Holy Week to refresh your memory by choosing one of the Gospels and reading again how the evangelist tells the Good News of the death and resurrection of Jesus. You might discover thereby why it is that we choose to call Jesus “Lord”.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Maundy Thursday team service, at St John’s Stoke Row, at 8pm, on the 18th.
Hosanna in the Highest !
Your Rector Kevin Davies
