Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Tuesday 21st June 2022

A happy baptism

Dear friends,

Village activities continue apace; Stoke Row Church shared cake with the Friends of Stoke Row School in church last Saturday, and at Checkendon we welcomed baby Charles Hildred into God’s family, enjoying the chance to greet friends old and new. The music group blessed us all with some classic hymns and songs, and coffee after the service was thronged. Today Checkendon’s boot fair will see the green and field awash with stalls and visiting bargain hunters, and the centre of the village will be a hive of market activity from very early in the morning. Worship in church will continue, however, as usual at 11am, and we will be celebrating the eucharist and praying for God’s mercy on our world. God doesn’t offer bargains, just gifts.

Prayer requests

Thank you all for your care and support for your churches. Thank you to those of you at Checkendon who have already responded to my appeal letter earlier in the year. Please could I encourage those of you who have not yet had a chance to look through the material to do so, and to write to or email the Treasurer if you would like to help. It is a little understood fact that every local C/E church receives nothing whatsoever towards running costs from either the Government or the National Church of England. Each church has to be financially self sufficient.  Please help if you can.

Your prayers are requested for Charlotte Snowdon and her rehabilitation and therapy at Stoke Mandeville Hospital; for Amanda Dunham and Mateus Jacubowski as they prepare for their marriage; for those who have recently welcomed a Ukrainian family into their homes; for the refugees themselves; for peace at home and abroad; and for your church fellowship and all that we can share together. There is much to ask God. There is also much to thank God for.

Your Rector,           Revd Kevin Davies
