Dear friends,
Welcome to this service on the second Sunday of Advent. This week, as part of your Advent discipline, I invite you to learn (relearn) with me the Ten Commandments. The form below is suitable for memorisation. If you would like to read the “full” text, the reference is Exodus 20:1-17.
I am the Lord your God; you shall have no other gods but me.
You shall not make for yourself any idol,
whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
You shall not bow down to them or worship them.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Remember the Sabbath day, and keep it holy.
For six days you shall labour and do all your work.
But the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
Honour your father and your mother.
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness.
You shall not covet.
I look forward to hearing how you get on! Do take this sheet home with you – there is a useful summary of Christmas services around the Team inside. Next Sunday’s family service at Checkendon (11am) will also be taking an “early Christmas” theme. Do come along if you plan to be away for the festive season itself!
Your Rector Kevin Davies
