Lent Courses
Dear friends
As February draws to a close and the season of Lent gets under way, may I draw your attention to the Lent study groups that are on offer this year? Both are open to anyone from across the Team. On Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm you have a chance to meet God “In the Wilderness” with Revd Romey Poston. The first meeting is this afternoon, at Court Farm Cottage, Checkendon, and weekly thereafter. On Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm there is the option to “Come and See” at The Old Stables, Whitchurch on Thames, with the Revd James Leach. Both groups welcome anyone from anywhere in the Team, and you are able to drop in to the courses as you are available. Do register your interest with either r.e.poston@btinternet.com or jamesleach.whitchurch@gmail.com A great opportunity to meet, share, and learn. There is a zoom option available for the afternoon group.

I’ve been camping out in my study for about three weeks now. Repairs, redecoration, and recarpeting have meant everything has had to be emptied out prior to the works and renovations. It is almost finished, but the state of “de minimis” could almost be a metaphor for the Lenten time of the wilderness, when everything is stripped away, and one discovers who one is without any of the clutter. There is just my desk – too big to get out through the door, an empty bookcase, and two chairs. I can see the floor, and any filing has to live, tidily, on top of my desk. Nothing can be “put away for later.” Happily, I am discovering that I am still the same person underneath, which is a relief, and am resolved that only the things that I really need are going to be allowed back in again. The rest will be consigned to history. Lent for me this year is destined to be a practical discipline as well as a spiritual one!
May the Lord bless you and keep you. Do join us at worship if you are able to break free.
Your Rector, Revd Kevin
