Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 6th January 2019

Dear friends,

A very warm welcome to this service, and a very happy new year to you from all of us in the Langtree Team Ministry Staff. May the hope and peace of Christ be with us all throughout the uncertainties of contemporary life.

Your churches continue, thanks to your support. Each church is cared for by a “PCC” – a “parochial church council” who work together with your local minister and our Team Ministry Council to make sure that not only is your church building fit for purpose but that everything that goes on inside (and outside) of it brings glory to God and celebrate’s God’s love in Jesus Christ. The PCCs of our seven team churches collaborate in matters of resourcing and ministry, in recruitment, and in administration. Each PCC sends one or two representatives to make up the Langtree Team Ministry Council, and it is this body which oversees the resourcing of our churches. When we can help each other out, we try to do so.

Our Team Council has its annual budget setting meeting this coming Tuesday (8th Jan) at 8pm at The Rectory at Checkendon. There’ll also be updates and reports from around the parishes, and some seasonal refreshments. Please make sure your PCC is represented!

I have been working my way through the foundational Christian texts, encouraging you to try to learn these off by heart as we progress through Advent, Christmas, and now the Epiphany. This week is hopefully an easier week, as the text is the Lord’s Prayer. I give it you here in the contemporary form, but of course it is absolutely fine to learn it in the traditional version!

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom the power and the glory are yours, now and for ever, Amen.

Let us rejoice. The year may be new, but God’s love is eternal.
