Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 20th January 2019

Dear friends,

A warm welcome to you all to this service, wherever you are worshipping in the Langtree Team Ministry area this morning.  May the hope and peace of Jesus Christ be with us all.

The sport of tennis has been much in the news of late, what with Andy Murray and the Australian Open. One of our church members, John Beddington, has spent his entire working life in the world of tennis and moving among the stars of that sport. He is going to be giving an illustrated talk at Checkendon village hall on Friday Feb 8th at 8pm. Tickets in aid of Checkendon Church, including wine and canapes, are £10 and available from Sue Endacott sj.endacott@googlemail.com. Everyone from across the Team is very welcome to what promises to be a very special evening.

It is a bumper year for weddings across the Team. Please remember in your prayers all those planning for their big day, and pray for them as they come to our marriage preparation class next Saturday. We hope to help couples think about the bigger picture, and strengthen their relationship by putting in foundations for a lifelong committment to one another.

Finally, our key text to have a go at learning by heart is the Apostle’s Creed, printed overleaf. Do take this sheet home with you, and spend five minutes each day committing these few lines to memory. They are important.

Every blessing in our Lord Jesus                             Your Rector                      Kevin Davies.

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
