Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 3rd March 2019

Dear friends,

Peace and grace be with you all through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is the “Sunday next before Lent”, or Quinquagesima in the old money. Lent begins this coming Wednesday, and you are all warmly invited to our Ash Wednesday Team service, to be held at St Peter and St Paul, Checkendon, at 7.30pm.

Lent courses begin next week around the Team Churches, and as usual you are welcome to attend any of these which suit you in terms of theme, or convenience. Do make the most of this opportunity to meet and reflect together on our shared faith.

Our key text to learn this week is the Apostles Creed. Why not test yourself and see how much you can remember?

The wonderful warm and sunny weather we have enjoyed over the last few weeks reminds me that, despite the muddle the world as a whole finds itself in, God’s love shines on, constant, faithful, and true – for those who take a moment to attend, and look upwards.

The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

Lent Course at Checkendon.

Tuesdays starting 12th March, 1.30-3pm at The Rectory, Checkendon. Join us as we take a journey through the ministry of Jesus using Zeffirelli’s classic film “Jesus of Nazareth.” This group will be a chance to get a feel for the “big picture” of the life and times of Jesus, as well as give useful background for our studies of the Gospels. Everyone is very welcome, and do please let the Rector know if you plan to attend.
