Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 21st October 2018

Dear friends,

A very warm welcome to this service, wherever you are worshipping across the Langtree team ministry area. May the peace of Christ be with us all.

The Oxford Diocese

Our team of parishes are part of the Dorchester Area of the Diocese of Oxford. Every area has a Bishop (our Bishop is Rt Revd Colin Fletcher) and is divided into smaller administrative units called deaneries. Ours is the Henley deanery, and our area dean is our very own Rev Linda Smith. The Oxford Diocese itself is a very large area, consisting of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, as well as the city of Oxford itself. The Diocese has a very useful and extensive online resource for all of us to use at www.oxford.anglican.org so do have a look at the material that is on offer. There are useful resources for church councils, churchwardens, treasurers, and safeguarding officers, as well as teaching materials from the Bishops. You can read all about the latest ideas and initiatives including Bishop Steven’s vision of a more Christlike church.

Team Website

More locally, you can also consult our team ministry website, which is useful to check on diary dates, service times, and catch up with the newsheet. You can subscribe to the weekly “from the Rector” so that it will come to you by email, too! All this and more at www.langtreechurches.org !

Internet access in church

St John’s Church Stoke Row are enjoying the internet access now available wirelessly in their church building. Like many modernisations to church buildings it has left me wondering “why didn’t we do this before?” It improves the options available to us in our worship, and improves the welcome that we can offer guests and visitors by not denying them something that they will pretty much take for granted everywhere else.

Please pray for our local schools this coming week as pupils and staff enjoy their half term break. Let us rejoice in God’s love, and celebrate His compassion.

Your servant for Christ’s sake.                                              Revd Canon Kevin Davies.
