Seven Churches in South Oxfordshire

From the Rector: Sunday 18th November 2018

Welcome!

Dear friends,

A very warm welcome to our worship this morning, wherever you are worshipping in the Langtree Team ministry area. Let us rejoice and give thanks to God for our freedom to gather, to worship, and to read the Bible out loud. We are also free to try to persuade other people of the truth of the Christian gospel. These are freedoms which should not be taken for granted and certainly are not enjoyed by all Christian churches around the globe. Today we remember the persecuted church, and especially those Christians in countries where conversion from another faith is forbidden.

News for St Leonard’s

Revd Linda Smith has been granted a few weeks of compassionate leave in order to support her daughter after her grand-daughter’s surgery. Those of you at St Leonard’s should be reassured that Linda herself is not unwell and will be back to parish service on the 3rd December. In the meantime, I will be looking after the day to day business of St Leonard’s, and together with others in the Langtree Team ministry staff will be covering Sunday and other occasional services in Woodcote. If anyone does have any questions that need a clerical answer, please do get in touch.

The Religion of Brightness

As the weeks tick by and Advent draws ever closer, you might be interested to learn that the first Christian missions to China were by Syriac priests in the 7th century. The Chinese coined a wonderful name for this new faith coming from the west. They called it the “Religion of Brightness”. This in turn reminded me of the Psalm: “For with you is the fountain of life. In your light, we see light.” Psalm 36:9

May the love of God in our Lord Jesus bring light to your eyes and a shine to your heart.

Your Rector                                   Kevin Davies
